Lynn has contributed to the field of community engagement scholarship (CES) since 1992. Early community engagement roles included schoolteacher, associate director-Family Support Network, faculty in the UNC Schools of Medicine and Public Health, and vice-chair of Community Health Studies at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network. Since 2002 Lynn has served as Director of the pan-university Carolina Center for Public Service, which engages and supports faculty, students and staff in addressing the needs of North Carolina and beyond through engaged teaching, research and service. Across her career she worked in partnership with communities to address complex problems, developing engagement strategies and networks.
She oversees the Buckley Public Service Scholars program, with 10% of UNC undergraduates participating, and the Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars program. This program is a competitive, two-year skills building program that, creates understanding and recognition of UNC-Chapel Hill community engagement scholarship.
