Biographical Abstracts

Associate Dean for Extension and Outreach for Families and 4-H Youth in the College of Human Sciences, Director of Extension and Outreach to Families, and Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Iowa State University. She has served on the Academy of Community Engaged Scholars (ACES) think tank as a representative of Cooperative Extension, the Journal of Extension Board, engagement faculty, and a scholar of the scholarship of engagement and engaged scholarship.

In 2010, Dr. Franz began her work at Iowa State University providing vision, leadership, and direction for the combined units of Families and 4-H Youth Development on campus and in the field, developing coalitions, strategies, action plans, and revenue to make Extension and the college a national model for the human sciences, and integrating research from the college’s department into the work of Extension families and youth development. She has provided state, regional, and national leadership in transformative learning through engagement, documenting engaged scholarship, determining and sharing the public value of engagement, and monitoring and measuring engagement. She has participated in the ACES since its inception.
