Biographical Abstracts
Stephen Gavazzi is director of CHRR and a professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology at Ohio State University. As director, he is responsible for the overall operations of CHRR, managing the center’s budget and working with senior staff to ensure that resources are available and project timelines are met. He also regularly engages stakeholders—both inside and outside the university—to advance their data-driven activities. His areas of expertise include a variety of topics within human development and family science (he is a trained marriage and family therapist), with a special emphasis on matters concerning families with adolescents.
Gavazzi also has a strong interest in issues surrounding higher education, including leadership, campus-community relationships, and the mission of land-grant universities. His latest book, What’s Public About Public Higher Ed? (published in 2021 by Johns Hopkins University Press and co-authored by West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee) was based on survey data collected using CHRR’s American Population Panel. CHRR was founded in 1965 as the Center for Human Resource Research.
