Biographical Abstracts
Susan Renoe is associate vice chancellor for Research Development and Strategic Partnerships at the University of Missouri (MU). Renoe’s university leadership role includes apportionment with both the Division of Research, Impact and Innovation and the Office of Extension and Engagement. She also holds a tenure-track faculty appointment as an assistant professor of strategic communication in the MU School of Journalism.
Renoe also serves as executive director of the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS), which is funded by the National Science Foundation (OIA Award #2334906). ARIS elevates research impact by providing high-quality resources, scholarship, and professional development opportunities and by creating connections among researchers, community partners, and engagement practitioners.
Highly regarded for her experience and expertise related to efforts to advance research excellence and increase the broader, societal impacts of research, Renoe serves on several advisory boards, including the Research Impact Assessment Advisory Board for the Centres de Recerca de Catalunya, and the University of Missouri Museum of Anthropology.
For her contributions related to advancing research impact, she was named a Research Development Champion by the National Organization of Research Development Professionals and elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Her AAAS fellow citation was for “distinguished contributions and commitment to strengthening the societal impacts of science and engineering by building capacity, advancing scholarship, growing partnerships across multiple institutions, and promoting effective public engagement.”
Renoe earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.A. and M.A. in anthropology from the University of Missouri.
