Biographical Abstracts

Al Richmond, MSW, is executive director of Community-Campus Partnerships for Health, founded in 1998 to promote health equity and social justice through partnerships between communities and academic institutions. He is a global thought leader advocating for the authentic and strategic engagement of communities in public health and research. For over two decades, he has provided leadership in community engagement and Community Engaged Research (CEnR). His work centers the persistent health disparities that are pervasive in the U.S. and globally. His commitment allows him to provide leadership to CEnR projects, including co-lead of the Engagement Core for RADxUP, and MPI of the North Carolina CEAL Project.

Richmond also serves as MPI of the Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource launched in 2022 to serve as a national resource to NIH-funded projects. He has served as a member of PCORI’s Patient Engagement Advisory Panel and as project lead with multiple projects funded through the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Award Program. He enjoys supporting other professionals and nonprofit leaders as a certified professional coach. His support for other community health leaders include membership in the National Community Based Organization Network, affiliated with APHA. Richmond received his master’s in social work from Ohio State University and his bachelor’s in social work from Livingstone College.
